Saturday March 29th saw the inaugural Dapper Drinker event hosted by Berkhamsted based tailors, William Young 1876 and Tring Brewery. Drawn from a ballot, 75 lucky attendees enjoyed what was described as a rather splendid evening of entertainment, prizes and beer. By request, guests arrived in an assortment of dapper outfits including top hats and tails, tweed, tuxedos and pinstripe suits. These were accompanied by elaborate walking canes, superb facial hair, pocket watches and many spectacular drinking vessels, ranging from china teapots and drinking horns to steins adorned with bells.
For his outstanding outfit, accessories and general gentlemanly demeanour, Mr Peter Jordan walked away with the evening’s top prize, a made to measure William Young 1876 suit worth £650. Other local suppliers including Ronnie Sunshines, Mountain Mania and Tringe Festival also supported the evening. The raffle of a "gentleman's hamper" raised over £400 but this sum increased to over £600 when compere Paul Ryan rallied the gents into stumping up more cash - in return for Ben Marston of Tring Brewery agreeing to have his beard shaved off by Alternative Barbering Co. who has set up a grooming parlour for the night. A total of £640.00 was raised and shared between 2 local charities, the Iain Rennie Hospice at Home and the Hospice of St Francis. The night has been captured for prosperity by the fabulous Jeanette Lendon photography and Movies by Mischke. Both Gillian Painter of William Young and Ben Marston have acknowledged that there will be more events of this nature…for men and women!
