Made to measure

Your suit that fits!

Thursday 19 May, 2016

So you have decided to finally get tailoring that fits perfectly...

rather than buying off the peg and paying for numerous alterations.  Being new to this world takes some getting used to, but once you enter it be warned you will never want to leave. Nothing gives you more confidence than looking good in clothes that were made for you.  Quality and craftsmanship takes time and made to measure tailoring is a perfect example.  Here, we provide a brief overview of what to expect.

An appointment will be booked to meet with you and discuss fabrics, styling and take measurements; you will need approximately 2 hrs and let me explain why... This initial consultation is fraught with fabric and styling decisions, but you are not on your own, that is why you have chosen to opt for a professional service providing professional advice.  You will make a number of  decisions on lapels, buttons, button holes, vents, fit, lining, embroidery, pockets, meltons, stitching, piping and of course construction: fused, half or full canvas. After all that you are measured taking full body measurements from the neck, chest, waist, shoulders, arm length, wrists, hip, seat, leg length and  inside leg length.  Suddenly it all starts to make sense  and you fully appreciate what you are paying for... but it doesn’t stop there,  your configuration and posture is also examined closely. You may have one shoulder smaller than the other, a prominent seat or even a substantial chest! There are lots of terms that are used to ensure that your clothes hang correctly, because as we all know we come in various shapes and sizes with our fabulous little quirks.  You will leave your consultation maybe a little bemused as to what has just happened, but certainly excited.  It will then take 5-6 weeks for your garment to be created, it is no quick fix…but when has a quick fix ever lasted?  Finally you will be contacted to come in for your second fitting then any minor alterations will be made. The joy of seeing your garment, designed by you with all the detailing you wanted never fades.
